Hump Glazed Donuts and Yellow Bananas

A reader took this picture and sent it along to me... some sort of comment on mixed up American dietary priorities... or food deserts... or something. But all I thought when I looked at it was, "This would be a great establishing shot for a HUMP! video!"

HUMP! is coming! Ticket info here! Submission details here! The deadline for HUMP! submission is October 7 and, yeah, that's coming up fast. But it's not too late to start! One of last year's winners was filmed the night before last year's HUMP! deadline. So there's no time like the present! And we can finagle the odd deadline extension for the odd filmmaker working on the odd HUMP! film—just ask before October 7, okay? And have we mentioned the prizes lately?

· Best Humor: $1,000 First Prize, $500 First Runner-Up Prize
· Best Sex: $1,000 First Prize, $500 First Runner-Up Prize
· Best Kink: $1,000 First Prize, $500 First Runner-Up Prize
· Best in Show: $4,000 Grand Prize

We've already gotten a few films in and I'm excited about sitting down and watching all of this year's submissions. HUMP!, for those who haven't been to HUMP or participated before, is a magical event and for two days every year On the Boards is the happiest/horniest place on earth. Do come!

#3: I thought perhaps "food desert" was some American term I wasn't familiar with. But then, I don't know what a "food dessert" is either.

@4 Tonight at Rudy's you can only buy tickets to the midnight shows. On Saturday at 10am, you'll be able to purchase tickets online at humpseattle.com for all others.

@6: He may well mean a metaphorical "food desert", as in "it's a desert with respect to the availability of good food". That make more sense to me than "food dessert", certainly, as I'm unaware of desserts that are not foods, rendering the qualifier unnecessary, and too confusing to be effective as a conscious stylistic choice.

hey! i took that picture! sweet! lol.. and yes, while it made me laugh over the fact that i'd bet anyone a $1 they sold more donuts than bananas, everybody else who has seen it goes straight for the hole/dick visual... maybe i'd just had sex, that's the only excuse i have... lol..

Food deserts are areas in which it is difficult to purchase fresh, healthy foods. The most commonly thought of is an urban neighborhood in which grocers have gone under, so only mini-marts are available for miles. The only affordable food available is canned, frozen, dehydrated, or otherwise processed. All of this is complicated if/when poor folks don't have reliable transportation to get to stores in reasonable timeframes.

It's easy for me to pick up a hot roasted chicken from Fred Meyer and be home before it cools, with some fresh fruit and veggies too. Poor folks, not so much.
