CNN:

Florida is now expected to hold its presidential primary on the last day in January 2012, a move likely to throw the carefully arranged Republican nominating calendar into disarray and jumpstart the nominating process a month earlier than party leaders had hoped.

Now the questions are: Are other states going to jostle to run ahead of Florida? Is the Republican Party going to follow through with their threats to penalize Florida by taking away half their delegates for jumping ahead of the other states? Perhaps more importantly, is the 24-hour cable news media going to treat Florida like a real primary? The delicate balance of the first four states in the Republican primary—Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada—was a pretty good sample of the country. You had a southern state, a New England State, a western state, and, uh, Iowa. If Florida goes first, this could upset the very delicate crazy/rational Republican balance that was going to kick off the nationwide contest, giving Teabagger loons more credibility. Florida fucks everything up for everyone else all over again!
