At Large Urinal of the Day: Following in the Footsteps of a Famous Urinator

"These porcelain puppies are located in the basement men's room of Riggleman Hall on the campus of University of Charleston, WV," writes UotD tipper Chris. "The date on the building's architectural drawings indicate it was designed in 1949. Their most famous alum was Robert Byrd who, according to the placard, attended between 1950 and 1951. Afterward, I was thinking, 'Is this where Bob Byrd might've peed as an undergrad? Did I use the same urinal as he did 60 years later?'"

More importantly, why do the flush handles alternate betwixt pointing forward and pointing to the left?

And where are the rightward-pointing flush handles? Why is there no bipartisanship?! (Though I suppose, from the pissoirs' point of view, they're all right-wing or centrist, with no lefties. Perspective is everything.)

urinals@thestranger needs to make a trip to The Olympic Club in Centralia. They have these MASSIVE urinals that are like the size of bathtubs standing on end. It's incredible.
