I asked for it on Thursday, and late Friday afternoon I received this:

It was encouraging to hear that our budget leaders agreed the only way to work through this problem is by working through it together. I hope that in the coming months our legislators stand firm against any more cuts to education. Jobs are Washington’s number one priority and the people of our state know education and jobs go hand in hand. I also hope they take a serious look at options such as closing the lucrative tax exemption for big Wall Street banks, a sensible way to restore tens of millions of dollars that should be going into Washington's classrooms.

Which is not much of plan. Sure, Inslee talks about closing loopholes that benefit Wall Street banks. But that only gets, as he admits, "tens of millions of dollars." This is a $1.4 billion hole we're talking about.

And yes, Rob McKenna's response is actually less detailed.

But Inslee has an opportunity here to define himself for voters who appear skeptical about his candidacy—and, you know, lead. He should.
