As much as I like where this guy is coming from, it still seems like he's making a religious approach to the subject - and religion poisons everything it touches.

Note to hearing impaired Sloggers and anyone without audio - clicking through to YouTube itself gives access to the auto-captioning feature, which, in this case, is decent enough to get the gist but does have some truly choice robot malapropisms.

@1--I got more than halfway through this before I realized it was a big joke at the expense of the repairativeistas. Thanks for making me feel better about myself.

This is the same guy who did the webshow Mr. Deity. It was pretty entertaining. A little heavy handed, but kinda funny sometimes.

I don't think the real issue is whether human sexuality is elastic or not. Hell, I hope it is. The issue is "I think your clearly personal behavior that does not harm me or anyone else is wrong and because my religion (sort of) backs me up, I'm going to be a jerk about it". THAT is the problem. Choice, schmoice.

I saw this yesterday and I knew it was a joke right away because I've been a fan of Mr. Deity for years. But as soon as I watched it I kind of figured Poe's Law would apply here, and that there was an excellent chance that anyone who didn't already know Mr. Deity wouldn't immediately realize this was a parody. It really is almost impossible to tell the difference between actual religious nutjobs and parodies of those nutjobs!

@7 my thoughts exactly. If you're a Mr. Deity fan, you know that he's about as likely to endorse "reparative therapy" as he is to convert to Wahhabi Islam. However the satire here isn't as heavy handed. The smile, the friendly gestures, the obfuscating is so pitch perfect to the actual nutjobs, that he's bound to get a bunch of people taking it seriously.

Now all that's left is to pray to FSM that some right-wing site takes it seriously and has a ragegasm for our entertainment.

I didn't know about this guy; never heard of Mr Deity. But I am now certainly interested. Very entertaining! Reminds me of Edward Current of YouTube fame (cf. his Resisting the Urge: A Guide for Christia…).

People aren't actually thinking this is genuine... are they?? Clearly satire (alas!)

Having never heard of Mr. Deity, I was completely fooled for the first few minutes. I felt slightly outraged, in that as a gay man, I've always disliked the term sexual preference. Sexual orientation better describes by sexuality, since I'd prefer to have been born straight. Having finally caught on to the joke, I'm off to watch more of his work on youtube.

The "reporter" nails Stone Phillips's concern-frown.

Thoroughly enjoyable.
