Intiman Is Dead, Long Live Intiman

Posted by on Fri, Sep 2, 2011 at 3:32 PM

I keep forgetting to tell you: Intiman has hired a consulting artistic director. His name is Andrew Russell. He was Intiman's associate producer and watched the big collapse from the inside. He's only 28 years old. And a few days ago, he gave this quote to the New York Times:

“We’re returning to the core impulse of what Intiman was at the start — a place created by theater artists, not run by one godlike director,” Mr. Russell said.

That doesn't say much, but it says a lot.

Intiman as we knew it is dead. But a promising something is bubbling beneath the wreckage.

You might mention the shows that are currently running at the Intiman.

Of course, Mr. Russell is wrong. The most intense, text-book example of "one god like director" I ever met in this town was Intiman's founder, Megs Booker. but whatevs.
