Does your Aunt Cathy live in Grafton? That's the road to the house I grew up in, my brother had a hell of a time getting to work on Monday.

Where was the bulletin to evacuate "Cropseyville" ?

And was there any reason to have shut down the entire NYC Metro? (Hint: No)

@5- The bulletin in Cropseyville (and the rest of SoRennCo) was "Stay the fuck off the roads, hayseed." So basically that's the same as shutting down the subways in NYC except it effects a couple thousand people instead of millions because the hill towns are small. Most homes were perfectly safe because they're up on the hills.

When I heard there was flooding in the area I actually thought of the houses in the bottom of that picture there. The roadside ditch (which obviously was completely overwhelmed) connects to a stream that runs through a narrow valley, those houses are right at that junction. I bet the stream was running right at it's banks.

Amusingly, they were going to start repaving that road on Monday.

Vermont is completely fucked by this storm. A wedding party I didn't attend was having MREs dropped off by National Guard Helicopter, the base lodge at Killington has been wiped out, there's still towns completely cut off from everything, and a shit ton of flood damage.

The river wants her road back.

This is why I love hiking the Index Galena road.
