Everyone's watching Misfits, right? OK good.

(and if you weren't before, you are after Dan mentioned it in today's Savage Love, right?)

Because, nerds: if you love sci-fi and/or hot sex, and you're not watching this, then you are MISSING OUT.

UPDATE: Cienna is totally more nerdy than I and wrote about Misfits in February. If only I had listened to her then I would have had a few extra months of delight, instead of only beginning to watch last month on the recommendation of another friend. This raises the question: Have you watched Misfits yet, Paul Bobby Constant?!

SPOILERS AFTER THE JUMP BECAUSE I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THEM!

OK THESE ARE SPOILERS!!!! Don't look below the line if you hate spoilers!!!!

- - - - -

ok... Future Simon... AMIRITE?! He's my new boyfriend.

Except now he's dead and I DO NOT APPROVE. Because it doesn't make sense. And I don't see how they're going to convince me that it makes any sense. Can someone tell me why it makes sense?!

Also, the Guardian asks, "Can Misfits survive without Nathan?" because Nathan is leaving and being replaced by some other guy for Series 3. And I just don't see how that's going to work. Thoughts?

Well, that's an easy question: No, it cannot.

"Also, the Guardian asks, "Can Misfits survive without Nathan?" because Nathan is leaving and being replaced by some other guy for Series 3. And I just don't see how that's going to work."

Rest assured, it won't work. Nathan is, from moment to moment, the most entertaining character on the show and most of the best lines are written for him. Also, it's one thing to introduce a whole slate of characters at the beginning of a series; they get to learn about each other as we also get to learn about them. Introducing a single new character into a smooth-running dynamic sounds like narrative suicide to me.

All I care about is whether or not we'll have to wait an insanely long time for S3 in the US, or if they'll air it in a timely fashion

Someone I know anticipates getting season 3 as a torrent just as soon as it airs in the UK, although I believe this is not, strictly speaking, legal.

Killing Sexy Future Simon was a huge mistake, unless they are going to surprise us somehow.

They should bring in a Sexy Future Nathan. Double Nathan. More Nathan, not less Nathan.

Love this show, loved the part where the single mother gives birth and Nathan steps on the afterbirth.

I saw the entire group on Graham Norton Show and Graham was shocked to hear that Kelly really spoke with such a thick accent.

Nathan is a bastard. That said, he's such a part of the show even in a friendly antagonist sort of way, it's hard for me to imagine how it will be. But if it's handled right, it will just become something different. Which isn't always bad, we just worry it will be.

I cannot get enough of Simon. More Simon, any Simon.

The departure of Nathan is much less a problem than the writing overall -- Season Two was a big letdown. The whole time-travel story was ill-conceived, particularly with Future Simon running around in a ninja costume. He can turn invisible; wouldn't it make much, much more sense for him to be "fixing" (or whatever -- it was never very clear what the hell he was doing in the first place) the past by using the power he had? The writers for Season Two really made very little effort to think about the characters' powers and actually build the storylines around them -- Kelly's telepathy hardly seemed to exist, and it was made all the more clear that Alisha's power wasn't really thought-through when her character was created in the first place.

The first series was great, though. And the milk-manipulator episode was pretty good.

Misfits will not outlast Nathan.

And why did Simon, when Kelly was being held prisoner by the guy who thought he was in a video game, become invisible to steal the money to pay Kelly's ransom—because he can become invisible at will—but not when they delivered the ransom? Why didn't he just become invisible and go clobber the Kelly's kidnapper with a pipe?

And why, when they needed to hide the body of the second parole officer they offed (the one Simon killed on his own), didn't they bury her in Nathan's empty grave? And what the hell happened to Nathan's mum? Wasn't she at his funeral? How did she feel when he came back to life?

My podcast buddy Ryan and I dedicated a show to profiling Misfits last November - you can listen here (it's show 60 of The British TV Podcast - which we record weekly right here in Seattle. Gotta love bittorrent!).

@12 Dan you're totally right about the time-travel stuff. None of it made any sense. But I didn't care because Simon is hot and had hot hot sex with Alisha.

He does say his powers are different in the future, but again, I don't see how they're going to explain that.

And I thought Nathan *did* talk to his mom when he came back from the dead... didn't he at least have a conversation about what went down between them?

@13 Thanks for the heads-up!! I will absolutely start listening!

Did you see the end of the X-Mas episode? If not, read no further.

Our heroes sold their powers. When they returned to the "Power Broker" to buy them back, they were informed that not all of their abilities were still available. He gave all of them the option to choose new powers.

So Season 3 starts fresh.

The crew is no longer working community service, several of them will have new powers, and there will be some new faces.

Cast turn-over is a pretty common thing for British shows. It certainly won't be the same, but I do hope that it is interesting.

@11, 14... are you guys forgetting the Christmas episode??? With new fake Jesus and the dude who acts as a conduit for powers? The end of that episode totally explains how they all could've ended up with new powers, which may be why future Simon can't turn invisible.

@9 <3 <3 <3 I will withhold Paul's check stub until he watches it.

@12 Clearly Nathan's mother said screw this and reality traveled to the Game of Thrones world.

@14 "But I didn't care because Simon is hot and had hot hot sex with Alisha." Yes. That.

I suspect that the Nathan's departure was calculated to prevent a Bart Simpson/Cartmen over saturation sorta thing. With the time travel stuff from S2 it gives them plenty of space to bring him back willy nilly.
And as for the bits of incredulous plot head scratchers I'll refer you to that most massive pillar of Brittish science fictitious telly, DR.WHO.
It took them, like, thirty years to address what exactly does a dalek do when confronted with a flight of stairs.

Well, it started out OK. The superpowers-in-the-small stuff was way more interesting than the operatic save-the-world crap introduced at the end of the first season.

Contra Dan, I don't blame time travel, I blame writers or producers who can't or won't do without the crutch of an overcooked plot.

I watched up to the first ep. of the second series, and called it quits. I don't need another Heroes.

How could I have not noticed this show. Dammit.

Oh, and you're spoilers were not much as they didn't give away any episode plots.
