Wowowowowowow!

Posted by on Fri, Aug 19, 2011 at 8:57 AM

Move over, racist Disney cartoons of the 1930s—there's some new old-timey bigotry to gawk at!

Also, everyone involved in this skit deserves an award for Good Acting.

Thank you, Everything Is Terrible.

Dressing up like a peacock does get tiring sometimes. I just wish they made office chairs that could accommodate my train.

Gay people used to be funny - on Barney Miller.

Why is whoever posted this on Everything Is Terrible blaming everything on Rickles? Everybody else was just as offensive, if not more so. Plus, this was the '70s, not today - yes, it's offensive, but none of these people are being specifically extra-hurtful. It's kind of like saying Buster Keaton was a big racist for having a black character get scared of ghosts. I do think the biggest reveal about the attitudes back then is the "gay" character talking about his mother, as if that's the "cause" of his homosexuality.

The portrayal of the nurse doesn't exactly win any prizes for enlightened views of women, either.

@8 - What do you mean? Those stockings cover almost her entire legs. And do you know the kind of schooling you need to be a comedy nurse? She worked hard to be where she is.

When he puts probe in Lester's hand:

"Norman, is that you?"

How did that ever make it past the censors!?

Also, note the implied mapping of gay results from strong mother ("you remind me of my mommy").

That clip is rather chopped up. There's a complete version on Youtube under "Two Top Bananas." The clip is part 2 of 3 parts of a Showtime Special. The first part shows a fan dance that definitely shows more than the usual TV fare back then.
