Lo-Fi Scares with Hide

Posted by on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 10:12 AM

Hide is a dense, rich slice of game, a short but impressively spooky title with ultra-lo-fi aesthetics and enough indie cleverness to make it more memorable than most triple-A shooters. The controls are simple (just your mouse and your arrow keys) and your only companion is the game's moody audio—your labored breathing, the crunch of your boots through the snow (we hope that's snow), and the sounds of... well, we'll let you find that out. Much of the game's charm comes from discovering what it's all about it. Go check it out, it's free (Mac or PC), and absolutely worth some lost productivity this morning.

This is your POV. Get used to it.

If you like lo-fi visuals with moody audio and a trippy storyline, I cannot recommend enough that you try "Sword and Sworcery" for the iPod/iPad.

(and yes, it's spelled "Sworcery".)

@1 Thanks for the Sword and Sworcery tip! We'll check it out.

@2, that sucks about the G4, had no idea.

We still can't get further than three locations. Need to keep at it.... Maybe it ends in a big CGI musical number!

If anybody else is curious but the download is too high commitment, you can wuss out and watch a gameplay video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ELRv06sa…

so i read this post the other day and downloaded right away, but i just got around to playing it tonight. it's so fucking great. definitely one of the better survival horror games i've played [and that's my favorite genre!]. the ending when you "beat the game" is kind of anti-climactic, but i don't know if it could have been done any other way. so glad you posted about this, i really enjoyed it.
