@1, the article doesn't define overuse so I chose not to include it.

Isn't it also possible that these social networking sites don't "breed" narcissism in teenagers so much as teenagers with narcissistic tendencies are the ones who overuse it?

Bull. Being a teenager breeds narcissism. Some people grow out of it. Others run for elected office.

Bad science reporting (correlation=causation!) + technophobia (I can't figger out this damn computer) = journalism! (Kids these days! Their computers are rotting their brains! Science said so!)

Hormones, genetics, and natural human development breed narcissism in teenagers and they require no help. Those same forces also cause most of them to grow out of it. I find all these "kids these days" anxiety-mongering media reports exceedingly tiresome. Really, the only reason they think they and their peers were any better at that age is selective memory and nostalgia.

Fun fact: did you know that old people criticizing young people as rude and selfish has been going on since at least 500 BC? Greek and Roman writers did it all the time...
