Grubwich Is Open

Posted by on Mon, Aug 8, 2011 at 1:36 PM

Where the Pita Pit (don't fall in!) used to be on Broadway, Grubwich is a promisingly un-prettied-up, mostly-from-scratch sandwich shop. Choices like the El Gaucho steak with chimichurri sauce, the Bomb(ay) eggplant, and the GrubBurger are listed in a wall-menu format that's clearly low-budget but also pretty great. Also, hand-cut fries, a jukebox, and Tetris. Down with market research and graphic design, up with sandwiches!

I already ate lunch, so I didn't get anything, but it looks good. Also: free fries with any sandwich today. Has anyone partaken?

Unfortunately, the word "grub" would make me lose my appetite before I could start reading the menu.

As a friend and lover of french fries, "hand-cut" fries makes me uneasy.

Living in a state replete with In-n-Outs, this is a very serious issue.

Kind of an unfortunate name for a restaurant.

I think of a sandwich made of pulsating, squirming pale white grubs.

Which makes me...not want to eat there.

Owner here: People seem to either love the name or hate it, not much in-between. I love it and since I was the only person voting, it was unanimous.
@3 - I love me some in-n-out too, but our fries blow theirs away, mainly because we are taking the time to soak and double cook (of course we're not doing 10k+ a day in sales like the average i-n-o either, so there is that. We've got a nice cajun spice going on too.
BTW, the vid games are free so you can entertain yourself while your food cooks, and so is the jukebox, so you can listen to whatever you want while you eat.
The sandwiches are really good across the board, but the GruBurger, el Gaucho, and Portobello Brie are my personal favorites. I tracked down the chef I worked for in college to help me with the menu and she is amazing! Come try us out!
