The Unintended Art of Mad Homes

The room with no art in it at the top of a stairway (mentioned here) was, for me, the most haunting moment of Mad Homes.

I looked and looked for the art in the room, and all I found was a smudgy spot partway up one wall, near a corner, which cut off with a crisp line of cleaner wall on the bottom.

On one spot along the smudge, there was a pool of a stain, with drip lines running down from it.

This was where someone slept in their bed pushed up against the wall—the smudge of their sleeping left after night after night. The stain was when the now-ghostperson, sitting up reading in bed, spilled their coffee—or their wine.

If what JG refers to is part of the work then why are you so reactionary to her helping us see something we might miss? And if not part of the work, why can't she report on finding an interesting external amendment to the work, an accidental extension of who knows what origin that potentially changes the work itself? What is art and what confines it to what? Who are you? The new art God of the century? Many of us thought we got over that last century.

Bethany, I couldn't agree more and your post prompted me to share my feelings about this room. With pictures too: http://www.myheroesdiedofsyphilis.com/my…
