Lieberman Wants to Use Social Security and Medicare to Pay for the War on Terror

Posted by on Tue, Aug 2, 2011 at 12:55 PM

TP:

This past April, right-wing war hawk John Bolton suggested during an interview on Fox News that the United States should cut Social Security and Medicare to finance the defense budget.

During debate over the debt deal today on the Senate floor, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) appeared to endorse this call. Lieberman explained that he is working with Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) on a Social Security spending reduction plan and that “we can’t protect these entitlements and also have the national defense…to protect us…with Islamist extremists”

I'm sure Anders Behring Breivik would agree with you on this one. And I'm sure the kids he shot and killed would not, because, as Pam Geller recently pointed out, they were being trained to be anti-Israel and the “future leaders of the party responsible for flooding Norway with Muslims who refuse to assimilate, who commit major violence against Norwegian natives including violent gang rapes, with impunity, and who live on the dole.” Also, your plan is assured success because the current president is looking for more and more "comprises." As one columnist put it: This president does not want to lead, he wants to be loved.

Lieberman should just start wearing the Emperor's robes to senate already.

Hey Charles,

Liberman's plan is idiotic (The US needs to cut all spending, including defence) but WTF does it have to do with the Norway shooting?

Nothing?

Are you just using a tragedy for your own purposes?

Come on Charles you can tell us the truth.

Mudede haters need to learn how to read, really. I'm not even a huge fan but your arguments against him all indicate you skim his post and respond immediately.

Defense spending is a monster that, unchecked, will subsume all other priorities. Even the Tea Party people think defense spending is sacrosanct; they like to use their made-up "original intent" arguments ("I can read James Madison's mind, and he was an all-knowing, all-seeing god!") to explain why defense and law enforcement are the only things the federal government should be doing.

They see no irony in calling for smaller, less-intrusive federal government that rules through a militarized police state.

Charles: Obama is leading. Very much so. He's just not leading in the manner and direction you wish he would.

Lieberman should know better.
National strength includes the credibility of our system in the eyes of our own people as well as the credibility of our deterrent in the eyes of others abroad.

National security includes schools for our children as well as silos for our missiles.

It includes the health of our families as much as the size of our bombs, the safety of our streets, and the condition of our cities, and not just the engines of war.

If we some day choke on the pollution of our own air, there will be little consolation in leaving behind a dying continent ringed with steel.

So while protecting ourselves abroad, let us form a more perfect union here at home. And this is the time for that task.

Well it's not like Lieberman gets elected with Social Security PAC money, he gets elected with military contractor money, just look at his biggest donors. If only the poor could afford to buy senators, how different things would be.

Who wants to bet LIEberdouche will be hired as a fox news "commentator" or "analyst" upon his retirement from the senate a year and a half from now? Or will he head up some center-right circle jerk tank?

more than the rest of the planet combined isn't enough to fight off jihadis? THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH AMERICA.

Oh, and this shows Lieberman is desperate to save Israel from internal collapse. He has no allegiance to this country and he would gladly steal from the elderly Americans to finance Israeli wars of stupidity.

@13 You can't get odds on that bet. Sen. Joseph Lieberman (J-IS) will be the token Fox News 'liberal', giving them that 'fair & balance' thing they always talk about. They probably already have a show planned for him, with AIPAC as the primary, but silent, sponsor.
.....And then he'll sell them out.

These quotes should be plastered in billboards/posters/flyers/etc all over the country and in direct line of sight of people who rely/will rely on Social Security and Medicare.
