In a little less than three weeks, I'll be hosting an event at the Fremont Abbey called Songs About Books. A couple of months ago, I interviewed five Northwest musicians about their reading lives and what their songwriting processes are like. I then assigned them each a book. They've each written five songs about and in response to their assigned books. They'll perform those songs live for you on August 19th, and everyone who attends the show will receive a CD featuring the songs, too. (You can buy tickets here. If you can't attend the show, the CD is available for pre-order on the Ball of Wax Bandcamp page.

And if you're curious to hear what a musical book review (or a musical book report, or just a song about a book) sounds like, you should visit the Ball of Wax blog, where Levi Fuller has posted four songs from the project for your free listening pleasure.

These are books that I love, interpreted and experienced by some really wonderful musicians. That just about sounds like a perfect evening, to me. Hope to see you there.

This seems like a parody of something, but I can't figure out what. It must be, though.

"Funded by a grant from the City of Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs..." Does this mean my tax dollars paid for this? Can I get in free? I mean, it seems like I shouldn't have to pay twice.
