I love on my itemized bill, the fine print next to the "taxes and fees" section, saying something to the effect of "these are not taxes, but government-related obligations imposed on us and passed to your contract." Um, OK.

I love the $69.99 bullshit as well. Why can't they just say $70? Do they really think we're that stupid?

Fees and taxes on mobile bills are insane. $70. will end up being $84 or so. Unless you are a major league phone yakker, prepaid is a far better deal.

What @2 said.

Just think of it as the fee to allow Rupert Murdoch to steal your voice mail when you die from the next terrorist attack he finances.

I pay about $90/month for my BlackBerry . . . but I use about 5 gigs of data a month, so it's not that bad a deal, really.

or you could switch to virgin mobile/boost or a other no contract plan and get unlimited data/text from$25 and up per month, maxing out at $60 depending on how many minutes you need

No, I can't. I don't believe it's available here in Denver. And even if it was, I doubt it would support my Torch.

I could never buy a product that used the phrase "Where you at?" as a part of a legitimate ad campaign. There isn't even a verb in it, for crying out loud!!!

"With 2 year agmt"

If they mean agreement, why not just spell it out? I mean, it's not as if they're hurtin' for space on that billboard.

I'm afraid they don't spell it out because it really means argument. I'm afraid that if I signed up some T-Mobile guy would be calling me up every day for two years wanting to argue about everything from global warming to what I choose to eat.

I normally don't leave negative comments (and Grant I think you have superb music taste!) but is this seriously news to anyone here? along with the "OMG she's texting while driving" post, this has to be one of the most superfluous slog posts i've ever seen.

BREAKING NEWS: fine print.....it exists.

T_mobile raped me...and not in a fun way. Am on my 11th MyTouch Slide since August. Okay, I broke 2 of them...but the others malfuntioned on their own...nightmare! Have been charged more than 2000.00 in arbitrary fees..."we never recieved the returned phone"..."it was returned after 7 days"...blah blah...DON'T sign on w/T_mobil...unless you enjoy financial rape and a phone that will NEVER consistently keep you connected

@18 Let me see if I have your story straight

-I break phones all the time.
-I feel it is T-Mobile's responsibility to replace the product each time I destroy it.
-Each time, T-Mobile was nice enough to ship me a replacement phone.
-T-Mobile imposed unreasonable terms on me by requesting I send the broken phone back to them sometime in the next 7 days utilizing the pre-paid UPS box and label they thoughtfully provided.
-I did not return the phone.
-T-Mobile unfairly charged me for the replacement phone because I never shipped them the phone I broke.
-I have done this several times.
-I consider replacement phone purchase prices to be "arbitrary fees"

Do I have all that correct?

Here is the thing:
I broke 2 of 11. The others just stopped working. Dropped calls 80-90% of the time. Sent texts DAYS late, would not send texts at all, took photos upside down, etc. The probs have been NON STOP.
I DID mail the phones back PROMPLTY but was failed to hang on to my tracking number (lesson learned). The fees WERE ARBITRARY as 8 phones malfunctioned not bc I broke them but BC the MyTouch Slide 3G is a defective product. Several reps for the company have admitted this to me and said they deal w/ calls about this product all day long.
In fairness to the company, for my first 9 years with them, I had NO probs. They were great. Bottom line: they have a defective product, KNOW it is defective, but won"t do a recall bc it would be a hard hit finacially (for an already struggling company). Instead they tack on "ONE TIME FEES" for ARBITRARY things in order to recoup their losses.
If I was just paying for phones I broke, I could live with that...NOT the case

@3: Yes, they do think people are that stupid and assume that this is the price they pay no matter that you pay all sorts of taxes and surcharges. It's why gas is priced at 4.99.9 cents a gallon. It's $5 and some people can't see past the first digit in the price.

I've always wondered why they use Jaime Murray as their spokesmodel. After all, what she's known for is playing a skanky, manipulative, acquisitive serial killer on Dexter; a gold-digging tramp on Spartacus: Gods of the Arena; and a smart, seductive con artist on Hu$tle. Are they just being more honest about the integrity their product offerings than they intend?
