Yeah, we should do away with those pesky moon roofs. They don't accomplish anything anyway.

Was she driving or parked? It's inexcusable if she was driving.

But, but, but I was just calling 911! I saw a guy on a bike run a stop sign. They need to follow the rules of the road!

It's a good thing none of the Stranger staff never do anything illegal. That's a nice first stone you've thrown there, Brissey. Perhaps a better title would have been "Unsafe".

Were you a passenger in the back seat at the time? Because if not, you were driving, too.

Which is worse? Texting or taking pictures while driving?

I hope you didn't take this picture while you were driving....

@6 & 7: ever hear of this magical thing called a bus?
Posted by dak7e on July 28, 2011 at 11:24 AM

with @2: whether or not it is dangerous - it is an absolutely normal occurrence. Was this supposed to be news? Or the start of a campaign of shame?

Grant Brissey 10
I was on this thing called a bus. Also, I have never done anything illegal in my entire life.

Is there some sort of quota of pointless Slog posts Stranger employees have to post in a week or something?

@9: I would have written "too common" rather than "normal". People who choose to put the lives of others at risk should never have their sociopath actions taken to be "acceptable" or legitimized.

@10, you should have left your response with only the first sentence, Seattle Municipal Court Defendant 1146436. Good for you for taking the bus and removing yourself from harm's way.

The Wretched Harmony 20
The Stranger staff is a grotesque window into the psychological hangups of the American 20 year old. Here we see yet another case of overblown outrage at some perceived parenting error by a stranger. Root cause? Subconscious anger at their own parents.

Grant. Call your mom. Talk it out.

Wow! Traffic Reports & Criminal Activity Reports.

Is there anything you can't do, Grant?

Oh yeah. Quality, interesting writing.

This is no worse than the young guy driving through Idaho last week, Washington plates 327YWN, black Honda Accord, no hands on the wheel because both hands were on his Blackberry, and who didn't respond to honking horns when he strayed into other lanes because he had headphones on. He should have been on the bus, and it's amazing he didn't cause a major accident on I-84 given how the rest of us drivers had to swerve to avoid the fucker while he blithely texted or played games or watched a game when he was supposed to be driving.

So is setting your iPhone up to take a picture less dangerous than texting?

Kinison 24
Show me the photo where shes texting WHILE driving. All I see is a woman parked or stalled in traffic.

Could be worse, baby could be in the front seat. Or it could be a cyclist.

I was waiting at a bus stop next to a 5-way stop sign near the U District earlier this week and counted 5 people talking on their cell phones while the car was in motion (not at the stop ) who kept talking as they went thru the stop at 40th near I-5.

Is there a Twitter handle we can post pics of Seattle drivers breaking the State law to, cause my iPad has cameras ...?

A couple of weeks ago I was driving on Aurora and saw a woman driving with a bowl of cereal in her left hand and a spoon in her right hand...and no hand on the wheel. 50 miles an hour...

Looks to me like she's stopped at a light. Now, technically, it's still illegal to text when stopped, but I wouldn't call it unsafe, not if she drops the phone when the light turns.

@ 23 - See @ 10.

As for whether or not she's parked - if she IS parked, then she's parked in the middle of the street: check out how far in the background those trees are.

@ 20 - You see a "some perceived parenting error by a stranger"?? Really?? Because what I see is an adult person supposedly in control of a 2-ton automobile - with a child in the backseat, no less - and BOTH HER HANDS ARE OFF THE WHEEL. Because what she's doing with them is, in her mind, more important than DRIVING HER 2-TON AUTOMOBILE.

Brilliant!

I can smoke, put on make up and braid my hair while steering with my knees! Just stay out of my way and everything will be fine. Thank you.

The Wretched Harmony 31
@29

If she had nobody in the car she could just as easily kill another person. The kid in the back seat makes very little real difference. You just get extra special angry when you see it's a parent because you discovered relatively recently that parents (your own parents in particular) are not perfect, and you're not over it.

Look. Your parents made some mistakes. It's inevitable. Forgive them and move on.

31, hey I have some pop-psychology for you. It's perhaps instinctual or at least sociologically driven for adults to have concern for all young as a survival tool. This isn't some Freudian shit, now just let it go.

The best one I have ever seen was a guy FACEBOOKING...WITH A LAPTOP, not a cell phone...while driving through a traffic jam on the PA Turnpike. We were NOT totally stopped, just moving at intermittent speeds (sometimes 10, sometimes 50, with hard braking and accelerating, in bumper-to-bumper traffic). I came to find out that the traffic jam was caused by an accident a few miles up the road. Oh, the irony. Had I not also been operating a motorized vehicle, I would have taken a picture.
