Japan's New Normal

Well, judging from this NHK headline, it looks like the Japanese have taken at least one positive lesson out of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster: "TEPCO to eliminate gangsters from nuclear projects." A bold move, I know. But desperate times call for desperate measures.

Now if only the US could follow the Japanese lead, and eliminate gangsters from Wall Street, we might be able to avert the next financial disaster too.

Maybe then Japan would be able to build plants without so much overwhelming suck next time.

It should probably be pointed out that the Yakuza hold a very different place, culturally and operationally, than gangs or the mafia do in the USA or Europe. It wouldn't have been the no-brainer automatic policy that not hiring the mafia would be in an American project.
