Rick Santorum Whines About Dan Savage for Pocket Change

Posted by on Wed, Jul 20, 2011 at 12:28 PM

Since he basically raised pocket change last quarter, Rick Santorum has a new strategy for fundraising: Whine about Dan Savage to potential donors. Politico published Santorum's latest fundraising letter, and it's hilarious:

Dear XXXXX,

Bill Maher, host of "Real Time with Bill Maher" on HBO, is famous for taking shots at true conservatives like me on his show. However this past Friday, he and his guests went too far. Well friends, it's time we fought back!
On last week's episode, Maher hosted hate activist Dan Savage. Instead of focusing on the issues and having an intellectual conversation, they broke into vile attacks against me and other conservatives. I refuse to repeat these disgusting, sexually explicit references because these ridiculous attacks are far too inappropriate. However, I wanted to share my interview with Steve Malzberg of WOR in New York City — a responsible radio host who, like you and I, is disgusted by the media's treatment of conservatives like us.
Imagine if this happened to a liberal. Maher and his friends in the Mainstream Media would hit the roof — and rightly so! But when it happens to a conservative, they applaud and laugh.
Some conservatives in the media like Sean Hannity have lambasted these attacks, but we have to do more! We cannot let such filth stand. Your contribution of any amount right now will help strengthen our campaign to protect us from these outrageous comments and obscene attacks in the future.
Remember this is not the first time Savage has attacked us on our stance of supporting American values. Savage and his perverted sense of humor is the reason why my children cannot Google their father's name...

The right to Google your father's name is in the Constitution, right? Anyway, the rest of the letter is after the jump.

I took the high road for nearly a decade by not dignifying these mindless attacks, then even defending his 1st Amendment right to spew this filth. And to this day, liberals like Rachel Maddow serve as Savage's lackeys on national television, pushing his smut.
Yes, he may have the right to belittle and degrade us, but that doesn't mean we have to sit by and not fight back. That is why I need your support today, and your contribution of $25, $50, $100 or $250 to my campaign will help us do just that!
With your help we will make this country great again. You can help right now by making a small or large contribution to my campaign. Don't let Dan Savage and the extreme left win.
Thank you for your support.
Fighting For America,

Rick Santorum
P.S. Fighting for America takes all of us — please join the fight today

I don't get it: who is this guy and why is he named after the frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex?

@4 I know you are joking but years ago I actually came upon this whole Santorum business from that angle. I was like "Wow, sucks to be this guy, having that for a last name." Then I got all the backstory and felt stupid.

Classic catch-22. without the savage santorum reference, he's got no leg to stand on, but any allusion to it leads to more folks googling it.

Ah, the reasoning of a conservative.

@2 Yep. Self-pity, playing the victim, manipulating out of weakness, that's the modus operandi of your ethical system.

@9 I like the way you misspelled ignoramus! In Santorum's case and others of his ilk, it's a far, far better description of them to call them ignorANUSes. Don't know whether this was freudian or intentional, but either way it's a keeper!

I too feel sorry for folks with the Santorum surname, raindrop. I mean, it must be horrible to have people think one COULD be related to Rick Santorum, or (shudder) ACTUALLY be related to him (shudder 2x). I'm not even going to touch upon how utterly awful it is to actually BE Rick Santorum.

Dan isn't always right and I'm sure he's not perfect, just like everybody else. But it utterly baffles me how Santorum can call the guy who came up with the "It Gets Better" concept a "hate activist."

@33 I think it should be "...is famous for taking shots at true conservatives, like me, on his show". Though, to be honest, bad grammar (if it is that) is the least reprehensible thing about this man, especially since he undoubtedly didn't write this letter himself.

It's seems to me the only job Santorum is in the running for is Dan's press secretary. Who needs a real one when you have this idiot doing it for free!

and 'hate activist' Dan Savage actually is a pretty perceptive description.

What Mr. Savage and SL readers did to Santorum was really mean, especially considering that it affected everyone with the last name "Santorum."

However... When it comes to belittling and degrading, the part where he called all homosexuals no better than child molesters and practitioners of bestiality does give his statement a stink of hypocrisy or at least hey-wait-a-minute.

So yes, donate to Rick Santorum's campaign. It's right over here at humanrightscampaign.org. Make sure you write "RICK SANTORUM" nice and big.

Santorum has not EVER and will not EVER represent the Pennsylvania I love.

I'm quite unhappy that he's back in the media lately making my beautiful state look bad. We Pennsylvanians are not bad people or ANYTHING like this jerk, I can promise you that. Even the nut-job rednecks in the 'tucky part in the middle of the state. He makes those crazies look sane. He even makes the gangstas in North Philly look tame, because they're not hypocrites... I mean, they shoot people and stuff, but they don't go around saying they don't.

And, unlike many Pennsylvanian children, his spawn CAN google their father's name because they go to wealthy private schools in Virginia that can afford such an important thing like the Internet... whereas there are still kids around here that don't have that necessity.
