In case you missed it, over the weekend Rudy Giuliani told Republicans to "move on" from social issues including gay marriage:

The libertarian streak of the Republican party, he added, should want to avoid “getting involved in people’s sexual lives.”

“Stay out of it,” Giuliani said. “And I think we'd be a much more successful political party if we stuck to our economic, conservative roots and our idea of a strong, assertive America that is not embarrassed to be the leader of the world.”

Say what you will about these Republican presidential candidates, I think it's a good sign that a few of the biggest names in the Republican Party—Huntsman and Giuliani—are breaking from the party line on social issues. Back in 2004, they'd be tarred and feathered and forced to become Democrats or Independents. They're not driving the conversation by any means, but they are giving a voice to a very real minority of Republicans.
