Mitt Romney Can't Find Any Unemployed People to Star in His Videos

Posted by on Fri, Jun 24, 2011 at 2:11 PM

The Romney campaign wants you to meet Ryan King, who is miserable because of Barack Obama's economy, and baloney sandwiches:

But the Wall Street Journal discovered that King, who is the vice chairman of his county's Young Repubican organization, might not have it all that bad:

According to his Facebook and MySpace pages, [King] graduated just last month from Northwood University in Midland, where he studied accounting, was a residential adviser and mail clerk. On May 6, just as he was graduating, he announced that he “got the job, booya!!!” at Quality Marketing Enterprise, a Midland company.

On June 10, he cut the Romney video, telling his Facebook friends, “Last night went great and I hope that I make the final cut. It would be refreshing to be part of something nationwide. Off to work for the day.”

It is clearly a crime that Mr. King is not the CEO of a Fortune 500 company more than one month after graduating from college. I blame Obamacare. Oh, the misery! If Ryan King is the new Joe the Plumber, we're in for a very long election cycle.

Paul, do you know what the misery index is under Obama?

Do you know what percentage of Americans think they are worse off now (months into Obama's 'recovery') than they were 2 years ago (in the grip of a severe recession....)?

Your asshole snark won't save your boy Barack...

The contradictions are right there in the video. He says he has "$3 to my name before I cash my paycheck tomorrow" and then laments not finding a job. What paycheck?

And he's so poor that he went to college and has a car and a place to live... Hardly poverty on a global scale. They should have just shown him looking for jobs on his iPhone and been done with it...

No, he's just the poster child a Republican campaign needs. While blaming Obama for unemployment is fine, and having someone who is a quasi-victim of unemployment under Obama is fine, Republicans have still have as a core value a total lack of sympathy for anybody without a job. Every jobless person ever has nobody but himself to blame -- absolutely nobody. To think otherwise would create such cognitive dissonance in the Republican mind as to... to... well, to make them a Democrat. Disgust for the unemployed is practically the definition of what it means to be a Republican.

So yes, naturally, a Republican poster boy for unemployment must have a job. And a pretty good one at that. You're not expected to understand. You're not one of them.

@TWH Yes a sociopathic lack of empathy for anyone except fetuses and infants.
Also among King's FB "likes": Oscar Mayer Foods, mayo.

@4:

You can scratch infants off the list as well. The GOP doesn't give a flying fuck about fetuses after they're born...

My college roommate was from Midland and told me the rich kids that couldn't get into a "real university" would go to Northwood.

um, he says in the video that has has a job.

I mean, the message can be wrong, but it's lame to misrepresent the video.
