Every Child Deserves a Mother and a Father

Posted by on Thu, Jun 23, 2011 at 7:50 AM

But a child with two moms—one a surrogate for a straight couple—has one mom too many. Which is why God invented industrial shredders.

That was so poorly written I'm not even sure I understand the facts. Other than that the girl is missing.

@3 me too. It sounds like the kid didn't have 2 moms though, i.e. doesn't sound like the missing girl is gay.

This isn't the kind of story that makes Dan's point.

Why do you do this to me so early in the morning, Dan?

@4 - Dan didn't say that she was gay. He said that she was the surrogate.

However, @3 is correct. The facts of the case appear to be that the woman disappeared, and a few unreliable "witnesses" showed up after a reward was offered with crazy stories about how she might have been killed.

I'm with @ 3 & 5. Is this a sad surrogate story or a sad/creepy farmville situation?

@4 - The missing girl wasn't gay. She was, if I read this correctly, living with a straight couple and had the man's baby. So in a sense, the kid had two moms and a dad. Minus one mom, plus that scene from Fargo.

Agreed @3. The "journalist" responsible for this article should find another line of work.

And also WTF?

wow, it's like i need to make a fucking chart just to understand what happened in that story.

but it says it was written by a court reporter, so i guess they were just writing down these statements bullet-point style as they heard them.

either way, i think Dan jumped the gun on making this a ECDM&F story. not nearly enough information, and what we got was confusing as hell.

A good rule of thumb to follow is never associate with a guy named "Sheepdog."

More, I Say! 13
Woah, woah, woah, waitaminit! What about the bit in the article where it describes the missing 19-year-old as having 'a disability and the mental age of a 10-year-old,' and that this Mr. Geeves was acquitted of an earlier murder charge, AND that this girl wasn't exactly a surrogate so much as she was, "carrying his baby" and "Ms Haigh told her family the father of her child wanted to use her as a surrogate mother."
WHAT? Everything about this story is horrible.

@ 13 and you've got to love the new girlfriend. "You realize that your boyfriend is connected to the murders/disappearances of several girlfriends, right?" "Well, whatcha gonna do? People just do the darndest things."

I agree @13, esp about using a mentally challenged individual in this way. Not a good example, Dan!

Wait! I'm wrong! That's what makes it the *perfect* story for ECDAMAAF! I'm getting the headlines mixed up.

I'm totally with 5. Combing through the disjointed ideas of that poor reporting, it sounds like it could be a horrible case of abuse and murder. But not really a good example for ECDaMaaF.

Good example even if there wasn't this current disappearance being investigated. That the wife didn't care her husband had a past involving murder suspicions and missing past girlfriends? What sort of couple is this?! This new missing person investigation only makes them look far more suspicious and disturbing.

In other Aussie news (sorry to be off-topic) but did you hear several Labor state gov's are backing supporting gay marriage? And GetUp won a bid to have dinner with the primeminister, and are sending a lesbian couple in an attempt to change her stance on it? If we can get at least one of the major parties to back gay marriage... it'll not be a huge step, but it will at least be *a* step forward.

HUH? That article made NO sense.

So she had the mental capacity of a ten year old but she was a surrogate?

Something about crackhead?

WTF?

Maybe there's a Foster's commercial in there somewhere.

I believe thisstill fits in the ECDAM&F category. This hetero yet criminally insane married couple is now in the centre of two missing women cases and has another one in their sights.

They can marry and have kids (or raise the children of the women they kill), no problem

Since the article is so effing difficult to comprehend:

Amber Haigh:
- had disability and mental age of a 10-year old
- lived on a farm at Kingsvale, New South Wales
- lived with Robert and Anne Geeves
- got pregnant by Robert Geeves
- told her family that Robert wanted to "use her as a surrogate mother"
- gave birth to baby
- was last seen by the Geeves at Campbelltown Railway Station, Sydney, "on her way to visit her sick father"
- was reported missing by Robert and Anne Geeves in 2002, five months after giving birth
- $10,000 reward for information about her disappearance

Robert Geeves:
- was acquitted of murdering another woman (not Amber)
- currently married to Ann Geeves
- currently seeing Ursula Kirk

Ann Geeves:
- currently married to Robert Geeves

Witness: David Williams
- aka "Sheepdog"
- joked around about whatever happened to Amber
- while drunk and stoned heard rumours that Amber's body was "hidden in grapevines"
- denied talking about gang bang, torture, or throat-cutting of Amber
- used to work in an abattoir (slaughterhouse)
- thought a colleague phoned police about Amber because of the $10,000 reward

Witness: Adam Blundell
- employed by Robert Geeves
- never asked Robert what happened to Amber
- he and friends talk about Amber's body being put through farm shredder, as a "joke"
- is told by coroner "it's not a joke... it's not funny"

Witness: unknown
- acts like a clown and a buffoon and could get into serious trouble, according to coroner

Ursula Kirk
- dating Robert Geeves
- doesn't know or care what happened to Amber
- doesn't mind that Robert Geeves was acquitted of murder and is associated with Amber's disappearance
- says "Everybody has a past"

That really was a confusingly-written piece (thanks, Recoisiche, for the summary). But it's worth saying that the case has been of some interest to the Australian press for the last week or so, and it appears to be a rather complex case. The ABC is normally really good with reportage, so this is just a poorly-written blip on an otherwise top-notch radar. (Or something.)

I met Robert and his now deceased girlfriend in a pub with my husband and kids...next day we went out to their place and had a b-b-q. The whole place felt eerie, vibes weren't good, and we never went back. Same place at Wombat that he's at now by the look of the pictures on TV. Not long after, his girlfriend was shot...The bushie
