Dear Barking Cat: WE SAW YOU BARKING!

Posted by on Wed, Jun 22, 2011 at 12:11 PM

Dear Barking Cat:
We saw you barking, yo! So quit trying to deny it by not-so-subtly changing your bark into a meow. Look, barking cat. Anytime you're ready to come out of the closet, we'll be here for you. We love and cherish your individuality, and we accept you for who you are*. BE YOURSELF, barking cat. BE... YOURSELF.
Love,
The World

[* Confidential to the World: This is totally fucked up, and there's no way we're accepting this. Don't worry—that freak will be euthanized by dawn.]

That cat looked visibly embarrassed. Maybe we've discovered part of their evil world domination plot?

What was it barking at? I've seen cats make short vocalizations mimicking birds in an attempt to catch one. Maybe this puss saw its favorite dog?

OK, I'm on board with the world domination plot theory, in all honesty.

Cats are evolutionarily awesome. It's been shown that the meow of a domestic cat closely resembles the sonic signature of a crying human infant. That they would learn to bark to emulate a competitor for food/attention is not surprising.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned why this cat is evil. Maybe it's because of its SOLID YELLOW EYES HFS OMG!

@10: Meowing in wild cats is how kittens talk to their mothers. Domestic cats have a lot of traits that are really just neoteny.
