Sandwiches!

From Dinette's twitter:

Dinette is now open for lunch! 11:30-2:30. Daily changing chalkboard menu of delicious sandwiches on bread from Columbia city bakery!

It's not quite within the two-block radius, but everybody here still loves Dinette. I bet their sandwiches are good. And two tippers (already! Today's the first day!) say it's true. Joe (his photo here) says:

We had the truffled egg sandwich (egg crepe, frisee, truffle oil, aioli $7.50) and the italian beef (top sirloin, jus, giardeniera $8.50). The latter is spicy and so good. I'll be on the patio [Joe means the sidewalk seating] a lot this summer :)

Only 16 more minutes of sandwiches today, but there's always tomorrow. Menu after the jump.

Easily one of the most underrated, under-the-radar restaurants in Seattle. Don't tell your friends.

Everybody needs to spend 10 bucks on what looks to be 1/2 or 3/4 of a sandwich. Economy? What economy? Daddy, can you explain this when you stop by to pay my rent?

@Phil: Great social commentary not based in reality.Nothing was $10. Go spend a dollar less and enjoy your Subway meatballs (TM).

@7: Totally agree, and it's the first place I recommend to (sane) meal-loving peoples who might appreciate great food and a terrific atmosphere.

@9: You're forgetting the $5 footlong.

@8: Seriously, stay away.

I call bullshit on the Italian Beef until Dan or another native Chicagoan checks it out.

We were shown today by the chef how to stand over our plates and allow for maximum drippage. I have to say, we did leave quite a mess.

@Mikey: Um, $8.50 + drink + tax? Based on, well, the menu and prices right here in the article. Weird. 1/2 or 3/4 of a sandwich? I know this is gonna be a shock - based on the pic of the sandwich presented with the article. Sandwich pictured appears to be shorter than that of the butter knife(!) in the same pic. Have daddy walk you through it. You can try to guess the size of the background sandwich next to the hfcs soda can if you're feeling bold.

I hate to be a bitch,but I only have a desktop. Could you please post your photo in such an orientation that I may read it without my having to move my computer to the living room coffee table, so that I may be able to read the menu while I lie on my side on the couch?

@13

true it's no foot long sandwich but if all you're looking for is gut extending fullness for the least amount of money spent, then maybe you should stick with a national fast-food chain and stop whining in the comments here. you get what you pay for and i don't expect that a subway or quiznos, no matter how much they're buying in bulk, is able to source quality meats, vegetables and bread for their sandwiches and still charge just $5. i'm willing to pay a few dollars more to know the provenance of my food but, again, if cheap is all you're looking for, there's a mcdonalds on first hill; go graze their dollar menu.

@Phil: Based on the information you've provided us, the only metric you employ for judging food is its size, or more accurately its perceived lack of "super-size." Not sure where this daddy business comes into play or how your's would weigh in on this but the difference here is I actually HAD the sandwich and ENJOYED it. Your armchair Ken Schramming is lazy.
