Gregoire Signs Unaltered Liquor Distribution Bill

Posted by on Wed, Jun 15, 2011 at 4:28 PM

This afternoon, Governor Christine Gregoire signed a controversial bill that could privatize the state's liquor distribution center within the next four months. In short, this a play on behalf of legislators to save union jobs and block Costco's liquor privatization initiative, by (hopefully) demonstrating that the state could make good money by leasing out just the distribution center. (Of course, that brainy argument is worth less than a virgin margarita on Mother's Day to voters who want better access to liquor.)

If you don't know what the fuck I'm talking about, SHAME ON YOU MY WORDS ARE PRECIOUS.

That would the minority of voters, as demonstrated in the last election that had liquor privatization on the ballot.

Does this mean Christopher Frizzelle will shut up about liquor stores being closed on holidays or at 4 am in the morning?

@2, I suppose so, if Costco's initiative passes in November.

What @1 said.

Look, it's a minority of voters that want the Tuunel of Tolled Terribleness, and it's a minority of voters that want spirits sold to teens at the end of every block.

Women voters will kill this ... Again.

You could try reading the articles first.

(Tuunel == what happens when the frosty goodness of an impending Canucks win does a bodycheck against your spellczecher in the Tunnel to the ice)

@2 Personally, it really pisses me off when they're closed at 4 pm in the morning.

Come on, Cienna, please don't use the word "privatize" w/r/t the distribution thing. 'cause it's not privatizing, it's outsourcing; it's awarding stewardship of a monopoly on a public utility of sorts to the lowest bidder.

Actual privatization would be where businesses could compete to sell liquor. Are you being deliberately dishonest by conflating the two?
