This is the news I've been waiting for, and it makes this whole DC Comics reboot sound worthwhile to me: Grant Morrison is writing a new Action Comics #1, and he's going back to the roots of Superman. Based on the cover image to the left, it looks like he's finally using an older pitch for the character he's wanted to use for a while: "I wanted to do a story of Superman's first year in Metropolis when he wasn't so powerful and he was a bit more of a liberal activist." Based on the comments on the post that react specifically to the L-word in Morrison's quote—"Aaaannnd, I'm officially done with new Superman comics. It's been a nice 35 year ride"—a lot of conservative comics fans like to forget that Superman began as a pro-union, liberal-minded man of the people. I hope DC sticks to their guns on this; Grant Morrison is the writer who can get me excited about monthly Superman comics again. And Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool reports that DC is serious about trying to get new readers on board. He writes: "I understand that DC is to launch a major national television advertising campaign for the new line of comic books." Wait, providing all their comics as physical books and e-books and advertising to a larger audience? Why, it's almost as though they want people to read their comics!
