This rather dull image was taken on April 26, 2011...

The image captures a fraction of the fence the WSDOT completed on Feb. 15, 2011. The reason for the fence is, of course, to "deter people from jumping off the bridge":
An increase in the number of suicide attempts from the bridge and comments from people who live and work in the densely populated area compelled the City of Seattle, King County, WSDOT and community members to take action...

The aftermath of these suicides affects more people than just those who commit or attempt suicide and their families. They significantly affect people who live and work below the bridge

Between the month the fence was completed and the month I took a picture of it, a wedding happened at the Lake Washington Rowing Club, which is located beneath Aurora Bridge. The ceremony enjoyed the protection of the fence.

I do not know this young and handsome couple, but the images (taken by Jeff Marsh) of their wedding are interesting. They show a very distinct mode of being in Seattle. And this mode of the city represents, one supposes, the mode of their union: The couple stands next to an anti-war protest, a march against the European and American attack of Gaddafi's army (the marriage as caught in history). The couple stands in Post Alley (the marriage as the core of the urban). The couple visits Discovery Park (the marriage in a state of nature). The couple legalizes their relationship under the suicide fence (the official/existential condition of the marriage).
