While the city council ponders—and ponders, and PONDERS—the proposed street food ordinance that would let all of Seattle enjoy more to eat on the street, food truck pods are forming (watch your back, Portland!). There's one with a rotating cast including Kaosamai Thai, Pai's, Here and There Grill, Street Treats, and more happening downtown at 2nd and Pine. And (as Capitol Hill Seattle blog reported yesterday), another pod starts this weekend at the parking lot at the former BMW dealership on Harvard and Pike: the Capitol Hill Night Market, filling drunken stomachs from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Would you like to have more street food? Would you like to have it at two in the morning? Well, one of the things the city council is considering is a street food curfew. NO ONE LIKES A CURFEW. The current proposal does not address how late trucks can be out, so there would be no time limit on the feeding frenzy (gasp!). And a couple weeks ago, Council Member Tim Burgess called the lack of curfew a "huge problem," adding, "Why wouldn't we... just say [vendors] can't operate after 11:00 p.m. or midnight or something?" BECAUSE THAT IS STUPID, TIM BURGESS—because (part of) the whole point of street food is to eat it late at night, on the street, when you need it most. The rest of us don't turn into pumpkins at midnight like you, Tim Burgess.
