Sarah Palin Not Invited to Speak at Biker Rally

Posted by on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 4:24 PM

MSNBC:

One day after Sarah Palin announced her bus tour, a group sponsoring a Memorial Day weekend event she plans to attend said they never invited her.

"She wasn't invited. We heard yesterday she came out with a press release she was coming to Rolling Thunder," Ted Shpak, national legislative director of Rolling Thunder, told "Andrea Mitchell Reports." Shpak is one of three members of Rolling Thunder's current leadership who says he had no idea Palin was coming until it was posted on her website....
"She's not invited to speak. We're not endorsing her ... (but) we can't stop her from coming to ride, if she wants to ride," Shpak continued...Shpak says Palin's attendance "is a big distraction" and that his "phone has been ringing off the hook" ever since she announced her intention to attend the event.

Did she just assume she'd be welcomed with open arms? That seems like kind of an enormous detail to just leave up in the air; who's doing the planning for this tour?

Sarah Palin thrusting herself uninvited into scenes in which she is neither remotely qualified nor at all wanted?

Unpossible.

"Shpak" is the sound of a campaign falling flat on its face.

She should just skip right to Philadelfia to see the Liberty Bowl.

Yet more evidence for my Sarah-Palin-is-a-psychopath theory.

5$ says whoever invited her, was a prank phone call and she was stupid enough to fall for it (again).

So hey! Let that be an idea to anyone who can talk to her with a straight face, invite her to all sorts of stupid things. Invite her to the Fremont Solstice Parade, tell her shes going to be the queen who leads/starts the parade. She's on an actual float, but one surrounded by naked cyclists.

This isn't really a Palin screw up. That sort of thing (making sure you're invited) is handled by staff. Incredibly bad staff work, so bad it reflects on her judgement in who she hired to be her staff (loyal over competent, maybe?) Or, it's so incredible, maybe it's not credible. It could be someone at Rolling Thunder has it in for her, and found a great way to make her look horrible.

I'm sure she thought she would be welcomed immediately with open arms. I mean, she wears leather jackets! Bikers are salts-o-the-earth! Bikers are her people!

Thankfully, the anti-elitism of the clubs seems to have worked against her, and they can see her for the not even weekend warrior she is. Some of these people live crustier, more working class lives than she could ever imagine, I'm proud that she's getting the "Bush clearing brush to slum it" treatment.

That's the best news I've heard all day!

@ 5 - Yeah! Let's invite her to HUMP, and tell her that it stands for Helpin' Unsung 'Merican People, or some such.........

The bikers will welcome her. Most of them are teabaggers, you can be sure of that.

It's no surprise the organizers are whining about a new logistical headache. They have it bad enough trying to wrangle a throng of drunk Easy Rider wanna-bes dressed up like pirates trying to ride 1,000 pound Harleys they only take out of the garage once a year.

Why do people hate so much on Sarah Palin? Oh, wait, now I remember... What a piece of work that woman is.

Also - what is up with all these skin-tight black tights all the time? I'm trying not to ogle women's asses (I actually am trying to stop) but goll dang ladies! I can only take so much! Please stop! (Please don't stop.)

@11: Rolling Thunder is made up of vets and is in honor of those KIA/MIA, the idea that she's just blithely co-opting a gathering that's in honor of war vets is pretty tactless regardless of which party you're in.

@13

All biker rallies honor vets and MIAs and 9/11 heroes and blah blah blah... Honoring those who served and died is all those guys ever think about every minute of every day. The sacrifice of our heroes is what inspires them to get drink beer and stare at women with saggy tits all weekend. They can't take a piss without putting up a banner proclaiming that they're taking a piss to honor the KIA/MIAs. They love America that much!

If urban hipsters were smart they'd start announcing to the world they're drinking whiskey and snorting coke to honor those who served. That shit gets you respect.

The Patriot Guard Riders don't go to biker rallies. They gather at the crack of dawn, ride to funerals (only when invited), and then get out of the way.

I'm convinced her whole campaign is being run by the producers of "Paris & Nicole: The Simple Life."

Did Sarah Palin just endorse gay rights?

Palin has always been gay-friendly: "I do not speak for Governor Palin," says Tammy Bruce in her blog. But I think it's pretty clear that her retweet was a "condemnation" of DADT and other "social ostracizing" of gays and lesbians. Despite what the media and "Gay Gestapo" tell you, Palin isn't a "culture warrior," and has never been a "bigot or homophobe." She's a "live and let live" conservative-libertarian, and her public record backs that up.

@14 As both a veteran and a biker, I'm really insulted by what you're saying in this thread. I hope that you realize just what an asshole you are being right now.

From the story about this that I read before, someone coordinating the rally had invited her but hadn't cleared it with the rest of the group.

@22 - Yeah, I totally agree. Talking shit about veterans is pretty repulsive behaviour. Anyone who questions his liege Palin is fair game, I guess. Nice cult ya got there, Wretched (that name is so appropriate).

@23 @22

I'm talking shit about bikers. Nobody said anything against veterans. One of the reasons I'm talking shit about bikers is what you two fucks are doing right now: hiding behind veterans to stave off criticism.

Getting drunk and making an ass of yourself is nothing more than getting drunk and making an ass of yourself. Waving a POW/MIA flag while you get drunk and make an ass of yourself is what insults veterans. It doesn't make you holy to pretend your booze and wet T-shirt party is being put on to "honor" veterans. Trying to hitch your wagon to veterans for self-serving reasons make you an asshole, sweetheart.

If you want to honor veterans, sober up and do something to help veterans, like the Patriot Guard Riders do.

I haven't even brought up the bullshit "toy runs" that drunk Harley pirates put on to try to hide behind needy children to spruce up their own image. A lot of charities have caught on to the fact that when a bunch of loud, annoying, drunk, meth head bikers show up it drives away donations. It takes money out of the pockets of needy kids for the sake of biker PR. It's shameful.

Truth hurts, motherfucker. Truth hurts.

I wasn't aware that this was a tailgate full of drunks on motorcycles. I don't know where you got that idea from though. The idea that everyone on bikes on Memorial Day weekend is just paying lip service to veterans while getting shitfaced staring at saggy tits is what I'm taking offense to.

I'm perplexed by the all bikers are teabaggers generalization. I know many people who would classify themselves as bikers, and can't think of one who would be affiliated with the tea party idiots.

I'm more perplexed by referring to tea party idiots as teabaggers. Teabagging is an enjoyable activity, for the baggee and for the bagged. why make it something negative?

I think The Wretched Harmony needs a hug. Or maybe a nice teabagging. Or perhaps medication. You seem awfully angry today.

@24: And you're the reason why I so rarely read comment lines. Gotta love generalizations. As a non-biker who has spent a good deal of time working with bikers professionally and drinking with them in bars, I've found them in general to be crass but intelligent people who are just as often liberal as they are conservative. Maybe you've got a problem because they're almost all white, male, & blue collar, maybe you're intimidated because they travel in packs, I don't know. But I've never found your ridiculous and prejudicial views to be true. It's too bad you choose to view an entire group thru the filter of the bad behavior of some.

face the facts nate . a bunch of hipster drag queens and flaming queers will never own a chopper or be vetrans. let alone have children or anything else normal. these fuck heads are nothing but a bunch of mental case's and sickos who are jealous of everything and everyone else on the planet,. they will never be accepted into normal society as long as they remain the cynical psycho freaks that they are. trying to talk some sense into them is like trying to dig your way to china . you'll only get tired and give up , and end up deep in a hole from your efforts. these double dip shits oppose anything they don't invent , you could hold a charity event for homeless old people and they would find something wrong with it.

The real reason bikers ride is because most of them are too fat to get behind the wheel of a car. When you see a great big ass draped over a bike it gives a whole new meaning to the word saddlebags. Now you take Palin's ego and it's the biggest, wettest glob that ever smelled up the seat of a Harley.

It's a biker rally. You don't need an invitation to attend. If you have a motorcycle or are riding with someone else, you can attend. Period. It's a free country, people. And this weekend, we are celebrating that freedom by remembering those who fought and died for it. She can go to any public location or event anyone else can go to. Get over it and stop being so scared of her.
