2012 / Politics Palin Aide Trashes Bristol

Rebecca Mansour, a close aide to political-huckster-cum-TV-personality Sarah Palin, has some 'splainin' to do after some not so politic comments were published regarding eldest Palin daughter Bristol's status as a political liability:

“Two words: Patti Davis. Okay three more: Ron Reagan Junior. Two more: Billy Carter. Doesn’t your family have one?”

Ron Reagan Jr.? A political liability? Really? Why? Because he danced ballet? I can't say I know Ron well, but from the few conversations I've had with him he comes off as one of the nicest, most reasonable people in the world... perhaps a liability for a talk radio host (which perhaps explains why he no longer is one, while is asshole half-brother still has a show), but hardly embarrassing. Unless, of course, being nice and reasonable is a liability in Republican circles.

As for Mansour's prediction for how Palin will deal with her Bristol problem:

“She will hold her at arm’s length. Even Thatcher was never able to disown her screw up son Mark. It’s a Mom thing.”

Ouch. Because nothing epitomizes the maternal bond like holding one's child... "at arm's length."

@1 - Seriously. It continually amazes me that the Republican party can tout its "family values" while making its leading members make it very clear that their familial love is highly conditional. Even Dick Cheney isn't this much of an asshat.

Um, the liability who will be ensuring that Palin never holds elective office again is the shifty illiterate secessionist hubby Todd, not the wanna-be bimbo daughter, whose only real offense against human decency is perhaps being given a credit card too young. And to be honest, the vast majority of Palin family embarrassments have come out of her own mouth, not any members of her family.

Good old conditional love. It's the Republican way. Dump the children that are a liability and keep the ones you can wave in people's faces to prove your own worth. Sick but effective. Just not for the children. But they only have any real value while they're in the womb.

Dick Cheney's only redeeming quality is that he clearly loves his children unreservedly. That doesn't outweigh his criminal behavior in nearly every aspect of his political and business life, however.

I think the connection to Ron Reagan Jr being made here is not that he is a fuck-up like Billy Carter, but rather that he goes off message from his father's philosophy.

Jesus, did you see what she said about Shannyn Moore, a gay political activist and talk show host in Alaska (who is very critical of Palin?

“Got a scoop for you about Shannyn Moore. You’ll love this! Feel free to post it far and wide and chat about it everywhere,” Mansour wrote in a July 3, 2010, message, “First, Shannyn gets no pay for her show. In fact, she actually has to pay $150 a hour or $450 a day to rant on the air … Second, ever wonder why there are no sponsors KUDO 1080am’s 11am-2pm show? No one will buy commercial time.”

“It seems her life partner Kelly Walters is hocking the show for any sponsor. I guess Planned Parenthood and Valtrex were unavailable,”
