Look, I Want This Thing To Pass

Posted by on Mon, May 23, 2011 at 2:54 PM

I've made it absurdly clear that 4Culture is a good, not bad, example of public arts funding, and that it needs your help in order to survive. So please, help it here—because there's yet another chance for it before the dead end of the legislative session Wednesday.

And yet I ask, for the love of god: If this bill, or some version of it, has failed one hundred million times before now, do we have any reason to think it will pass now? Are we venturing into the realm of the definition of insanity?

There are no backup plans if the House version dies.

By the several responses I got back from legislators recently after my emails, I'm enthused. Only ONE of them appeared to be a form letter response, but nonetheless I've lit a stick or two of the incense I got from the Dali-Lama....keep on sending support! It DOES seem to work...and they ARE looking at an alternative tax if the stadium thing burns to the ground....

SB 5834 has been on the Senate floor calendar for two weeks.
The bill refered to in the story is SB 5961

Both Senate bills, one has a backup (5834 doesn't have stadium taxes).

I am not sure how they are going to get SB 5961 through committee, and to the Senate floor by Wednesday. The committee it was refered to hasn't posted an agenda.

At the end of SB 5961 it mentions that if a portion of the bill fails (public vote in this case, stadium taxes, affordable housing and convention center) then the remaining portion stays in tact (allowing 4Culture survive).
Can they get one more Senate vote?

HB 1997 is still in House Rules.
