You Really Should Go See Troll Hunter

I've already Twittered about this, and I don't have all that much to add to Andrew Wright's bang-on review, but I saw Troll Hunter Friday night at the Egyptian, and it could wind up being the best genre flick in this year's SIFF.

I know Troll Hunter's a found footage-style film, but don't hold that against it—it's not a Blair Witch/Cloverfield ripoff, where you never know exactly what's going on. It's got a distinctly Hellboy-esque sensibility, and there's some serious nerdy world-building taking place throughout the movie. The thing that saves the film from being a bore is the titular troll hunter; he's a marvelous concoction, a wearied working man who's getting really tired of his shitty job. It's just great fun all around.

Troll Hunter plays again at the Neptune on May 24th at 9:30 pm. You should go.

Should we still go if we have to sit on padding folding chairs that don't have armrests and that may not give us clear sightlines of the subtitles?

You can also watch it right now on Pay Per View on Comcast.

Best spur-of-the-moment decision I made this SIFF! It was hands-down better than the best SIFF film I saw last year.

Don't miss cartoonist James Stokoe's awesome poster for the movie:

I regret missing this movie, it sounds great. But the Neptune sucks for movies now.

Best SIFF weekend ever!! Midnight Trollhunter was everything I'd hoped for and SO SO much more! Then "12 Paces Without a Head" was delightful. And Ewan on Sunday. Man, I should just stop now. Great times
