This is super-fucking sad: In an e-mail, the beloved small-press bookstore on Broadway just confirmed that they're closing on May 15th. Pilot Books owner Summer Robinson writes about the big party they're planning for that day:

Every hour on the hour, a few people can volunteer to read a selection from one of their favorite books. Sorry, it can't be your own work, and because of time constraints your selection cannot run longer than 2 minutes.

Reading is optional and the party is BYOB. We hope you'll stop by to celebrate and take advantage of our storewide sale (50% off).

I've been a fan of PIlot Books since they first opened. This is a huge loss for Seattle's literary community. The full e-mail is after jump.

Thank you.

After two great years on the Seattle literary scene, our story comes to an end.

Keeping the lights on and the books crisp isn't fiscally possible anymore, and so it is with heavy hearts that we announce our official closing on Sunday, May 15th.

Thank you for two years of shopping with us, and for two years of being a part of a community that made this bookstore more than a mere brick-and-mortar.

Please join us on May 15th, for a reading party from 6-9pm. Here's the format:

Every hour on the hour, a few people can volunteer to read a selection from one of their favorite books. Sorry, it can't be your own work, and because of time constraints your selection cannot run longer than 2 minutes.
