Last Sunday's New York Times had a section on summer movies. It included certain movie peoples writing about their favorite summer movies. One was Miranda July writing about A Room with a View (heart! I love the costume reenactments!). An excerpt:

I came stumbling out into the night, and walked silently between my parents, trying to imitate the child I’d been 90 minutes before and conceal my transformation into a woman in love.

Read the whole thing here. Also, Maya Rudolph on Purple Rain!

Miranda July's new movie, The Future, will be showing at the Seattle International Film Festival.

I seem to lack a Merchant-Ivory gene (or perhaps an E.M. Forster gene; I've always thought of him as a cross between a D.H. Lawrence for eunuchs and an Anton Chekhov for Anglophiles) that would allow me to enjoy A Room with a View, enticing male nudity notwithstanding.

Still, July make quite a case for it (or at least for her experience of it). Maybe I should give it another look.

You should also check out the movie made from the British play (with an interesting "character") of The Importance of Being Ernest, it's quite good.
