After reading this article, Slog tipper Daniel has a question he'd like Democrats to discuss:

Why is Biden a given? He does not have a significant following and is completely replaceable. Do you think it would be a shrewd move by Obama to pick a different VP? Cheney had offered to step down in 2004 and if the Dems had picked Dean or Clark, it might have been Bush's only option left. In addition to possibly firing up the base with a more charismatic figure, a younger VP would be a lock for 2016. Just some questions I would love to see discussed on Slog.

Here's what I figure: Though there were rumors a year ago about Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden switching jobs for a second term with Obama, I don't think it's going to happen. In addition to Daniel's Cheney example, there's another recent case to consider: Back in 1992, there was a huge movement calling for Bush senior to cut Dan Quayle from the ticket. Would it have helped Bush? Probably. But I think, in the modern age of polling, no president is going to fire a vice president because it would immediately be received by polls as wishy-washy. (It's not unprecedented, mind you; Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt swapped vice presidents when it came time to run again.)

And besides, it seems as though Democrats don't actively dislike Biden (who I hope has copyrighted the title "America's crazy uncle™") the way everyone disliked Quayle. But maybe I'm wrong? It's time for a Slog poll!
