Last Wednesday, April 13, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 6900 block of 34th Avenue SW in response to reports of a strong-armed robbery over three ounces of "medical" marijuana.*
When Southwest Precinct Officer Nilo De La Cruz arrived, the man told him that he had received a call on April 12 from a customer who wanted to buy some pot, and was hoping his internet ads were "legit," according to the police report. In response, the suspected pot peddler said, "YEAH...YEAH." Together, they agreed upon a suitable medical marijuana street corner for the trade.
Once at the mutually-agreed-upon location, the marijuana purveyor was approached in his car by not one but three men, all demanding entrance to his vehicle. The man refused. However, he did open his passenger door and ask his new client for ID. That's when the pot-seeking gentleman "lunged and grabbed the bag of medical marijuana from the [driver's] lap," according to the report. Then: "They had a tug-o-war but the bag ripped and the suspect took off with the 3 oz." All three of the men escaped through the parking lot of a nearby store.
The victim jumped out of his car and asked a store employee if he recognized any of the suspects. "The employee said yes and recognized one of them... the employee gave [the victim] his mother's name and phone number."
Seattle police are following up with the mother, according to the report. With any luck, a stern talking-to will follow.
*The marijuana didn't come from a dispensary, and the police report doesn't state that the victim had a growers license or the suspect had a medical marijuana card. The police report does say that the victim advertises his "medical" marijuana over the internet and arranges hand-offs at mutually agreed upon locations. Sounds legit enough to me!
