The Sound of Indifference: 4Culture Is Lying On the Floor Bleeding To Death

Posted by on Wed, Apr 13, 2011 at 11:54 AM

This is my call, in this week's paper, for SOMEBODY TO DO SOMETHING before arts funding in King County gets zeroed out for no freaking reason at all. Read it here.

I'm also in Questionland to answer more specific/wonky questions about the bills and the funding here.

Jen, art will not die. It can't. It changes, it adapts. Please stop the histrionics. No the art world in Seattle will not collectively get up and leave. Please, try very hard to have a more reasoned thought process toward art in the framework of human existence. At times art flourishes and is rich, at other times it is poor and weak. Name one, just one culture in any time that did not have some form of art. I'll take just one. Seattle artists will do fine in the long term.

@1 if you've got a Masters or better, it's pretty easy to move to Vancouver BC.

@1 Nobody said art would die. There's no reason this funding should. Kthxbai.

All human services have been zeroed out of the King County general fund budget. We're in a recession. Here's what you can do to help: stop relying on a hotel/motel tax and instead send a couple of hours' wages to your favorite arts organization. Then take a couple of friends to enjoy their product.
