Savage U Coming to MTV

Posted by on Mon, Apr 4, 2011 at 10:55 AM

As Canuck tipped us off in comments to the Morning News, Dan's getting a show on MTV! From Entertainment Weekly's Inside TV:

Savage U: Columnist Dan Savage brings his brand of blunt advice to MTV late night with this show where he takes questions while touring college campuses. “He’s able to do is bring incredible frankness to the topic of sexuality and spin it with a great sense of humor,” Janollari said. Added head of production Chris Linn: “I don’t think there are any networks talking to teenagers about how to navigate sex and modern relationships. There’s been a real leap forward in information online and the way teens communicate and Dan is somebody who brings real credibility.” (Producers: Picture This Television; exec producers: Bryan Scott, Lisa Tucker, Brian Pines and Savage).

Congratulations Dan and MTV viewers.

(Supplementary congratulations to Jeff Dye, the formerly-of-Seattle comedian who'll be hosting MTV's new prank show Money from Strangers.)

I wanted to call the show Dan Savage's Alaska but they wouldn't go for it.

Seriously though. This will lead to a whole new generation of sexual enlightenment. Screw abstinence ed - let's see what Dan has to say. Better than stupid Loveline.

Dan's business is always all over the news before we get to hear about it in The Stranger. Don't you guys want to enjoy the privilege of being early on these stories?

That said: A billion congratulations. And I think this will be a fantastic format. Dan is brilliant in these Q and A settings.

I'll download the torrent, I havent bothered to watch MTV since the Beavis & Butthead days. MTV 1,2,3 have all evolved into horrible channels.

Gratz, Dan! This will get on my computer one way or the other, hopefully Hulu or MTV's site so you can get some ad revenue. Cable TV is for luddites.

This is cool and all, but why the hell don't they play any music videos anymore? I want my MTV! Too much is never enough!

As long as it is filled with those "tilt 45 degrees left and rapid zoom 150%" shots I'm in.

Please, Dan, please encourage each and every leotard who watches MTV to get spayed immediately. Love ya Dan, but I just can't watch that channel. MTV get off the air! NOW!

I hope they give you more support than they did for Dr. Drew's MTV show. It would be good though if you could use his idea of having Laura Kightlinger co-host and roam the audience, except nude this time.

Way to go Dan!!! ...bringing sane sex advice to the young masses has to be a good thing.

I hope this doesn't mean fewer appearances on Bill Maher's show - where you have been tremendous.

Knat 32
@20: You just made my day.

Is it too much to hope for that they also bring back Celebrity Deathmatch and have Dan and Drew duke it out in their first episode? I'd watch that.

Oh great - just what we need teens armed with accurate information about sex and relationships. Boy is college going to get real boring.

If it's as good as the HBO pilot - well, who knows how good the HBO pilot was, because they never aired it?
