  • Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project

The Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project is advertising a special "Beat the Heat" spay/neuter promotion through April 30, offering to spay your female cat for a suggested donation of $25.00.

"This promotion is being offered to bring awareness to the importance of altering your pets to help reduce the homeless cat populations throughout our State. Each year thousands of cats are surrendered to our local shelters and sadly many will not find homes."

That's all very well and good. But without all those unborn cats reaching maturity, how will we ever afford to pay for Cat Social Security?

Less black cats, less bad luck? That's racist!

Goldy's sanctimonious crap makes even good causes seem like a drag.

It should work the other way around. Possession of an unspayed cat or dog should be punishable by a fine of $1,000.

@2 is right. If Lindy West had written this same piece, it would have been funny and lighthearted but with Goldy it comes off as smug and lame.

while spay and neuter is acceptable control for pets, and there is definately a reason to do it, you also need to understand the consequences.
many pets will have a change is personality, some good some bad, some pets will become more docile while others more aggressive.
the other problem is bone loss, as your beloved pet gets older they will suffer from bone problems. in people we subsidize this, but your pet is not and has to suffer through it as well as the hormonal changes their bodies endure..
So spay/neuter while understanding what is happening to that beloved pet.
