An uncharacteristically alert "Savage Love" reader sent along this picture of the bookshelf in his four-year-old daughter's daycare center. Um...

So, you're saying most of us are not alert?

(and that must be a pretty advanced daycare centre if 4 year olds are reading chapter books...but cool that it's there)

That whole top shelf is intended for adults, Dan.... Don't worry too much. :-)

What - no "Sex at Dawn"? What kind of bobo daycare do they think they are?

(Hola, Canuck...I think you're quite alert, in fact one of the best lerts I've read....)

Why, hola back at you, gus! (get it? holla back?? I crack myself up...) and thank you, dear...I do try to work on my lertness, whenever possible.

Seattle needs more 'lerts, not more 'loofs.

@1 I wasn't alert enough to catch that implication.

@5 Canada has lerts and loofahs...that's why we have such smooth skin...

@6 Yeah, I'm beginning to think he spends a lot of time laughing at us...

Canuck, as long as he spends less time laughing at us Sloggers than we spend laughing at each other, I'm fine with that.

True, gus...slog does give us a lovely platform on which to be comprehensively annoying, and you can't put a price on that!

(please tell me you're going to the IGB event tonight?? I know you like to be cryptic, so you could wear your Groucho eyeglasses+nose combo and lurk, and give us a full Michael K-worthy recap tomorrow...)

That looks like a brand new book compared to mine. A lot of those books look newerish so I wonder if the top shelf is off limits to kids?

Canuck, I am indeed, barring a friend I'm bringing home from surgery having complications... I did just check back at the site and there are actually tix still available! Maybe there'll be a rush of sales at the door...I do hope there's a cheering throng of us flying blind monkeys!

Agreed that the top shelf looks like it's all adult books - perhaps for parents to borrow? Definitely "Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together In the Cafeteria?" isn't for four-year-olds, either, unless they're very precociously interested in race identity and our educational system.

I'd put my money on Parental resource/borrowing library. Most schools I've visited have one. It's lovely to see "The Kid" there.

It's pretty obvious that the back row books are for parents and caregivers.

The Kid is a really good read.

You got a little Dan Savage left on your chin.
