Attention, Haters of Meat and Lovers of Free Samples

This weekend brings Vegfest, aka "America's Largest Vegetarian Food Festival," to Seattle Center.

On the roster: Cooking demonstrations, nutrition lectures, and over 500 meat-and-cost-free food samples [Eds. update: with $8 admission, which is still cheap for 500 SAMPLES!].

Those curious about the meat-free life should consider attending, or just behold these two photographs/artworks that accompanied the execept of Jonathan Safran Foer's Eating Animals in the New York Times Magazine, which makes the pro-veg argument as well as words ever have.

Also, you can get some nice beignets and coffee in Seattle Center House.

Those pictures didn't make me any happier about being a vegetarian. I eat with my mouth, not with my eyes.

I don't hate meat and I love Vegfest. Why does everything on Slog have to be about the hate?

@7 beats me. I think it's a cool idea. Plus, you can get there on the monorail.

You have a strange definition of "free". It costs $8 to get in.

And it is worth every penny. I'll be there volunteering (because I do want free to mean free, unless by free I mean 4 hours of donated time.)

Think I'll open a kebab stand nearby the event.

If I remember correctly, Schmader, one of my favorite Slog writers, said he was a vegetarian, but I like that he takes the Apu approach to it.

Lisa: When will all those fools learn that you can be perfectly healthy simply eating vegetables, fruits, grains and cheese.

Apu: Oh, cheese!

Lisa: You don't eat cheese, Apu

Apu: No I don't eat any food that comes from an animal.

Lisa: Ohh, then you must think I'm a monster!

Apu: Yes indeed I do think that. But, I learned long ago
Lisa to tolerate others rather than forcing my beliefs on them. You know you can influence people without badgering them always.
