You can park there w/o problem so long as you have a shitty car radio & haven't left anything potentially valuable on the car seat.

@1

I've learned you can park wherever you want, as long as you have a mean looking dog in your car.

Someone stole the stereo from the shitty old piece of crap I drive, while it was parked in my Kirkland driveway just this week.

There is no reason to lock your car, since they'll break the window if you do.

i used to ride over the Yesler bridge every morning on my way downtown to work. Usually every car had a window that was broken out. They will break windows for pennies in your cup-holder. It's like a little piece of the rust-belt in Seattle.

@Charles did you get anything good out of that?

@5 it could affect your ability to collect from insurance though

I don't think any thief is walking around checking doors. I used to believe the same thing but I still got my window busted out when I lived down south. You're in the jungle, baby. You're gonna die......

And this is the neighborhoods you expect Seattle COPS to live in? Really?

Oh please. What a bunch of old hens. .

Seattle has *no* bad neighborhoods, at least compared to the midwest. If a cop can't live in a Seattle neighborhood, he shouldn't be a cop.

Charles, you're right, nobody should ever park a car in a remotely questionable neighborhood. It's totally the drivers fault. If that car wasn't wearing such a short skirt and flirting then... no... wait.

@9 I don't live in Seattle but I haven't heard anybody suggesting that cops be required to live only in the shittiest neighborhoods. I'm pretty sure that even if they had to live in the city they would get to choose where in the city they wanted to live.

Good job, ghetto Yesler Terrace residents!

Car prowls are a very low priority for the Seattle Police because none of them live here. If THEY were getting their windows broken they'd be all over the problem.

You drive a mini van? That's kind of really awesome.

I learned the hard way about parking here! Someone stole a bag of canned food out of my car! It turns out this stretch of road is the boundary between the east and west police precincts. Also the street lights are always burned out and it is a freeway for street people because it's the most direct route between all the social services for homeless in downtown and an area called "the jungle" that is a veritable mall for all things illegal. It's the plot of greenery owned by the DOT. Cops in Seattle really dont seem to care about all the drug dealing and prostitution that is going on here. There are housing projects near by and even they don't deserve to have this in their backyard!

Hell, my car was broken into on 5th and Lenora, a very busy street, in broad daylight. I was stupid for leaving a small bag in the backseat with my coat on top of it. But shit, I had lived and worked in that block for years and never expected a break-in in broad daylight with heavy traffic. I cried, because they got some really important/sentimental stuff. Not worth much $$, but irreplaceable.

@Herbert

I had the same thing happen in my old car then my brother almost had his dog stolen. Taught me that I should make nonstop trips if I have anything irreplaceable/expensive in my car.
