The Present Story About the Explosion at the Nuclear Plant

Posted by on Sat, Mar 12, 2011 at 5:28 AM

CNN:

An explosion at an earthquake-damaged nuclear plant was not caused by damage to the nuclear reactor but by a pumping system that failed as crews tried to bring the reactor's temperature down, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said Saturday.

The next step for workers at the Fukushima Daiichi plant will be to flood the reactor containment structure with sea water to bring the reactor's temperature down to safe levels, he said. The effort is expected to take two days.

This is the BP of 2011. Listen to Golob and take your vitamins:
If you are in the nearby region, including in the Pacific West or Oceana—right now you should consider taking a multivitamin—better yet, a potassium iodide supplement. Radioactive cesium and iodine, if released in significant quantities into the environment, can replace non-radioactive potassium and iodine in the body.

What multi vitamin should we take to fight off the health effects of coal burning?

Charles,

Knock it off. This is absolutely irresponsible fear mongering. You should be ashamed of yourself. Nobody, including the leading experts in the field, know the all details of what is going on- let alone people who don't know shit about the engineering and science behind nuclear power safety.
Entire towns have been wiped out by tsunami. Useless panicked speculation about doomsday radiation will not help the people of Japan.

Stop it.

@Charles And if it does in fact become a concern in the future, and taking a vitamin could have helped you, why not take one just in case? It isn't going to hurt you unless you choke on it. Why not take a preventative action instead of being one of the stupid ones going; "Ooops! I shouldn't have listened to Charles"

I don't understand the "science" comment- we should take an Iodine supp because radioactive iodine will replace non-radioactive iodine in the body- whaaa? Am I missing something here?

@5: Radioactive iodine will replace non-radioactive iodine in the body (because of the Fukushima incident), so take iodine supplements to flood your body with lots of non-radioactive iodine and keep the amount of radioactive iodine in your body as low as possible.

Make more sense?
