Meet a Genius, Draw a Poorly Designed Cat

Posted by on Fri, Mar 11, 2011 at 10:23 AM

1. Sherman Alexie is reading at University Village Barnes & Noble tonight. As far as I know, the Stranger Genius of Literature isn't debuting anything new or anything; he's just stopping by to read and sign books. Which should make it an ideal time to see him. The crowds probably won't be as thick as they are at debut parties for new books, and Alexie should be relaxed and in a playful mood.

2. If you're looking for a chance to throw down with some cartoonists, Casey Scieszka and Steven Weinberg read yesterday at University Book Store from their new travel book, To Timbuktu. Tonight at 5:30, they're going to be at the Canterbury drawing and writing Shitty Kitty cartoons, and anyone can join in. Here's how they describe the events, which they've been holding all over the country:

Meet Ups are a time for people to hang out together at bars while drawing and/or captioning their own Shitty Kitty comics. Generally it goes like this: someone draws Shitty Kitty doing something and puts it out on the group table, someone else is inspired to caption it, then we pass it around and laugh at what sick minds we all have. Maybe we give it to a stranger at the bar and get them to join in on the fun.

And no, we don’t care if you “can’t draw”, it’s a shitty looking kitty after all.

So there's that. Looks like an opportunity for cartoonists to get together and talk shop.

3. Find everything that's going on tonight in the reading calendar.
