Gingrich: "I Only Regret That I Have but Three Wives to Lose for My Country"

Posted by on Wed, Mar 9, 2011 at 12:20 PM

If only had been more of a patriot, I might have enjoyed a little extramarital nookie too:

Newt Gingrich (R-GA) loves the country so much that it has caused him to stray from his marriages.

At least, that what the former House speaker seemed to be saying in a recent interview with CBN's David Brody.

"There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate," Gingrich said.

In fact Gingrich, the man who presided over the House that impeached President Clinton for lying about a blow job, felt so passionately about this country that he presented his first wife with divorce papers while she was in the hospital recovering from surgery for uterine cancer, and informed his second wife of his six-year affair with his third-to-be, the day number two learned that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Yup, he's a regular Nathan Fucking Hale.

Give him time - he's probably cheating on his third wife and will dump her any day now.

@1 It might take a while. Presumably, until she has some sort of serious health condition.

"Things happened in my life." I thought Repubthugs were all about personal responsibility.

@3, They are all about personal responsibility for everybody but themselves.

I love the ""Things happened in my life" bit. Kind of like "I was just sitting there minding my own business, when suddenly I found my penis had been inserted into a woman who was not my spouse." It is a strange and wonderful universe that these people live in, when things just happen to them. It's like their days are spent as part of a cargo cult...

The desire to hold public office really ought to be diagnostic criterion #1 in the DSM for Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

What a pompous fuckhead.

"This Country", is that what Gingrich is calling vaginas these days?

(Nod to Mr. Shakespeare, who used this hoary old joke in "Hamlet" - Act III, Scene II - some 400-plus years ago.)

This is either a lead-in to announcing his candidacy or his next divorce.

Newt Gingrich is only in it as long as there is something in it for him. When a wife is no longer able to devote her whole existence to servicing him, promoting him, providing for him, he starts lookin for the next woman who will.

On the upside, if he ends up with the nomination, he won't be able to say "family values" without being ridiculed and heckled. Oh, happy days.

@1, don't be silly. He won't divorce her until the campaign is over.

@8 & @9 - What is Wife#3's health status? I knew about #1 getting divorce papers right after cancer surgery but not #2 having MS.

@12: It's gotta be all right since he's still married to her.

I went to watch the video. I love the way he explains how he knows that god forgave him:
- he has "wonderful" kids, "wonderful" grand children and a "great" marriage => he's happy
- we understand that god is all mighty, so if he's happy, it's because He forgave him.
Conclusion: If you're happy, God loves you.
2nd conclusion: if you're unhappy, God hates you!

His wives were sick and probably hunnapy about it, that PROVES he was right to dump them. Damn hunappy people, all sinners.

republicans don't take responsibility. they feel jesus/the government have the power to absolve all sins. but only for rich white men, of course ;-p

Well, last time around the Republicans nominated John McCain, who dumped his wife after she'd been in a car wreck, so maybe now it's considered a requirement. Natural-born citizen? check. 35 years of age? check. Adulterous home-wrecker? check. WE HAVE OUR CANDIDATE!

well, see here--the phrase is "compassionate conservatism," not "compassionate republicanism," for a good reason.
