If you're traveling on Sound Transit's Link Light Rail this evening, and wondering what the hell all these live musical performances on board are all about, well, it's all part of Hollow Earth Radio's Magma Fest 2011.

The "Traveling Light Rail Show" meets up at the International District Station at 5:30 PM, heads down to SeaTac, and then back north to SODO Station. A different musical group will board at each stop and serenade you until the next. Performers include Racer Sessions, Tahoe Jackson, Toy Boats, Jordan O Jordan, Jamey Braden, Forrest Friends, Walrus Machine, Paul Hoskin, The Beaconettes, Movitas, Led to Sea. Music is free, but of course you need to pay your fare.

And when all that is done, there's an after-show at 8PM at Radar Hair & Records, 2724 1st Ave. S. in SODO. Admission is "$8-$20 sliding scale," and performers include Ya Ho Wa 33, Hound Dog Taylor's Hand, Rob Walmart, Sugar Skulls and Kaleidosaur.

Damn it. I would love to go but I'm also going to the EMP Soundoff. I wish I could do both.

Hopefully the conductors will be validating ORCA cards for these musical scofflaws.

Supreme @2,

My understanding is that the performers will be provided passes.

Just rode the Light Rail for the first time. home from the airport on Thursday night. Main impression, jesus what a roundabout way to get from the airport to downtown. Also, two block walk to get to taxi stand. yet, 22 dollar trip instead of 60.

@ 4 - As someone without a car, I feel like the light rail's a really convenient way to get to the airport, compared to the previous option of a bus that went through Sodo, Georgetown, and Tukwila. But different strokes, I guess. I suppose getting to one of the stations is maybe the one downside, depending on where you live.
