Dear Chicago Fan

Posted by on Sun, Jan 23, 2011 at 1:04 PM

Your boys are down 14-nill. It's a big rivalry. I imagine you are at a bar somewhere and the mood is getting somber.

Chicago Fan is no doubt consoling himself with both a Guinness and the knowledge that he is "younger looking" than his brother....eh, CF?

Nothing exemplifies the psyche of Wisconsinites (for me, anyway) more than this trivia nugget from the Packers' website:
"The Packers discontinued their squad of official cheerleaders in large part due to fan indifference. There are no plans to return to official cheerleaders."

It's obvious that Chicago is taking a dive for pay. It would be impossible to play such a crappy half unintentionally.

@4. "Fan indifference" because of inability of cheerleaders to show enough un-frostbitten skin.

If I were Chicago Fan, I would studiously ignore Slog today unless and until the Bears roar back.

Given the overconfidence of Chicago fans this last weekend, it was obvious that Green Bay would win.

Full Disclosure: I live in Chicago north suburbs, and work part-time in Wisconsin (with many Cheesehead clients), so I will jump on whatever bandwagon is the winner.

Amen Reverend Dr. DJ Riz.

Don't look now, but the third string quarterback just put the Bears back into game.

At least we'll have several days of the Chicago media furiously backpedaling on their overconfidence from the last week.

@15: What overconfidence? All the big names picked the Pack to win.
And as a Bears fan, I'd rather lose the NFC Championship to the Packers than to, say, the Vikings or the Rams or the Cowboys. We may not like the Pack very much, but we respect them as a venerable team and a worthy opponent. And Papa Bear always was nice to the Packers when it wasn't gameday.

Chicagoans, for all their bluster, have a deep-seated inferiority complex, bred from years (actually, centuries) of mediocre, under-performing & just plain lousy sports teams. As a former FIB, I should know.

Sadly, the outcome today will not help them to recover.

@19: I ain't even mad tho.
This city has claimed an NHL title, an MLB title, and an NFC championship in the past six years. It's also been named "Best Sports City" by Sporting News in 1993, 2006, and 2010. Remember too how the Bulls dominated the NBA back in the 1990s?
And frankly, I'm proud of the Bears this season. Starting with predictions of doom, an untested offensive scheme, and a porous offensive line, they improved to first in their division and second in the NFC overall. Almost nobody expected the Bears to get as far as they have. And as our talented but green receiving corps matures, and Jay Cutler becomes more comfortable with Mike Martz's offense, I predict that the Bears will improve further. I'd say we'll have a Super Bowl victory within the next five years or so.

What the fuck is going on with Cutler? If he's too hurt to play, he could at least pretend to care while he's sulking on the sideline. No starting QB worth a damn would sit out of a conference championship game if he was capable of leaving the locker room after halftime.

Cutler was butthurt and got pulled because he sucked, not because he was hurt. They probably should have suited up Chicago fan for QB. They were digging deep on that depth chart.

No doubt Cutler got a text from his girlfriend at some point at half time that read: "Hey Hon. You done with work yet? Talon is in town and we're having an AWESOME pool prty. Can you bring a friend for LC?"
