WGBH Call for Submissions

Posted by on Mon, Jan 17, 2011 at 5:25 PM

Next spring American Experience on PBS will air the documentary Stonewall Uprising. WGBH in Boston, which produces American Experience, is inviting "citizen reporters, journalists, video-bloggers, documentary story tellers, animators or new media-makers" to create three-minute shorts on the Stonewall Riots and their "legacy of courage."

There are five $1000 prizes for the best videos and the winning videos could air on PBS after Stonewall Uprising. I’ve been asked to be one of the guest judges—along with Cyndi Lauper and video journalist Michael Rosenblum—and the deadline for submissions is February 14. To find out more about the application process and what makes a winning video go to the open call home page at WGBH's website.

The trailer for Stonewall Uprising is after the jump...

This sounds like a marvelous project. And how nice to be on a panel where you're the youngest!

Not used to east-of-the-Mississippi broadcasters; too accustomed to WNBR.

My first thought was... "World Gay Bondage Happening"??

This is not a completely off topic comment. I was just thinking about the orange juice boycott against Anita Bryant, Florida's right wing religious bigot, and how it showed the power of LGBT consumers. It's a lesson we should not forget. It was another pivotal moment in the gay rights movement.

@5 I think you're confusing Rosenblum with Rosenbaum.

Vince, I think it shows the power of the equality minded consumer more than the LGBT consumer. Even my parents - who, to my knowledge are not gay and were probably unaware that I was gay - were put off by her hateful ways.

For a while there we couldn't have orange juice, grapes, lettuce, or anything made by Nestle. How did we live?

Wow, looking forward to seeing the entries and the documentary. It makes me feel good, as a former WGBH employee.

@Pmasp

If you look at the comments of her last podcast with MADGE, you'll see that Crabhooves criticized her and Madge so she doesnt want to do Yeast Radio anymore.
