Later this month, Simon and Schuster is publishing O: A Presidential Novel, which is a book written by an anonymous author who has reportedly "been in the room" with Barack Obama. Here's the writeup:

The truth only fiction can tell.

This is a novel about aspiration and delusion, set during the presidential election of 2012 and written by an anonymous author who has spent years observing politics and the fraught relationship between public image and self-regard.

The novel includes revealing and insightful portraits of many prominent figures in the political world—some invented and some real.

It will be published "on or around" January 25th. Man, that Primary Colors was a fun book; I hope O is in that vein.

I've "been in the room with Barack Obama" if you count being in Key Arena and the UW arena. Can I have a six figure advance on my tell all now?

@1 you have to shake his hand at least once or it doesn't count. Or get a pic.

@2: The standards required to land a book deal have fallen, it would seem. Now you don't have to even give a pen name to publish something, or even specify what room you were in, or for how long.

I thought only the WSJ website had fallen that far from respectability, but I guess they have at least Simon and Schuster there to keep them company at the bottom.
