The comments—like this one:

are priceless.

Thanks, Luke!

So...English peas - which apparently come from cans - are the gray variety? And it's really better to heat them on the stove instead of the microwave?

Because stuff poured out of cans deserves the most delicate of cooking methods? Wouldn't they be better poached?

Speaking as The Official Englishman of The Stranger comment section, I have just polled five friends as well as myself and have to ask: WTF? I know you put butter on an English muffin, but 'ingredient + butter' doesn't equal 'English version'.

@6 English peas are just the variety of peas... the butter is purely Paula Deen.

We're all dying at work reading the comments. This is my favorite thing of the day.

My Fav:

"Paula comes through with another winner. Who would've thought of adding pot to peas and butter. I've always loved Paula's double chocolate, pot laced brownies, but this takes it to a new level. I do wish Paula would have been more specific about the amount of pot to add to the recipe, but I guess she leaves it to a person's individual taste. Thank you Paula. Lovin you, gal. Keep innovatin'."

This one's a close second:
"I used my Slap Chop to combine this tasty recipe with a photoshopped picture of a nude Rachel Ray. I ate it, and for a week my poop smelled like butterscotch, and had glitter all over it."

Cute that Slog has finally picked up on this one; its been running around the Interwebz for a while now. I e-mailed the URL to a friend of mine last week, suggesting he try this unusually challenging recipe for his next dinner party, but he didn't get the joke.

Not as good as Rachael Ray's late-night bacon recipe -

The comments are gold on that one too.

She uses so much butter for everything because, whatever you call it, it's always yummy.

I think people here missed the point. I believe Paula was making fun of English cooking because most of their cooking is pub from cans, food from cans at home, and peas and carrots or peas. It was a joke and a poke at the British and their cooking. She could have done the same and said Irish peas. As long as there is a stick of butter involved, it's time for dinner!
